Craft Storage Most Popular | Alex - from IKEA - the most used craft storage unit?

When I recently had a look through my Pinterest Crafty Storage board to see what kept reappearing.

And the most popular item was the Alex drawer unit from IKEA. (Links for the UK IKEA site, search Alex on the main page of IKEA)

There is of course the tall thin version as well.

There are literally hundreds of units used by crafters and artists, and I cant feature them all but here there are some of my favourite photos of the Alex used to store crafts. ( Click on the photos for the link to their blog post for more photos and/or explanation!)

Anna's is one of my favourite as she has creatively remove the top two drawers to create an extra open tall drawer at the top.

Amy makes it a lovely sewing area desk unit.

I like how inside all these drawers there are extra organisers for smaller items, idea from Caprice.

Anita's used three of them to create a working island. Perfect for those die cutting machine as well as trimmer area.

Ikea Hackers has also a step by step tutorial on how to decoupage with old maps one of these popular units.

There is even a Flickr gallery (highly recommended) and a Hero Arts Flickr discuss groups on the Height and depth of them, Alex wide here and the tall and thin here

Or a Splitcoasters Thread on them which again I highly recommend to visit as it discusses the height of the drawers.

Kristina Werner has even done a video on hers:

Well, I have got one of those units and I have to say it lives up to the hype!

*Skooks Sewing Room

Skooks room is really full of little and big storing ideas. I am inspired myself as lately I have gotten more into fabric than ever before.

This is something I had never seen before, a Hanging ruler Holder.

How cute is that?
Click here for more info and photos. There is plenty of both of them!

Bridget's studio

I will let Bridget explain her studio.
My studio (I love calling it that) is actually in a guest bedroom. I
gave myself a budget of $75. I wanted a work-place that was organized
and fun. I was really struggling with my sickers and my stamps,
photos and misc. stuff! I would just stack everything on paper trays,
and it wasn't pretty!

There was an old brown dresser in the guest bedroom. My in-laws
purchased it at an auction for less than $15 about twenty years ago.
It has huge, deep drawers. I spent about $12 sanding and re-painting
it. I'm using the top drawer for stamping, and the middle drawer has
my current scrapbooking albums.

I use the utility cart for storing stickers. I have them divided up
by theme. I use the hanging wall cabinet for ribbons and storing
photos that are waiting to be cropped. I also have two pink
containers. One pink container holds all my adhesives, while the
other holds all the little tickets and hotel room keys I manage to
collect. The caddy on the dresser holds scissors, scrapbooking
markers, hole punches, brads and my corner rounder.

Combining elements

I already had a plain lazy Susan from IKEA when I got the Making Memories carusel. For a while I put away the lazy Susan but after a while I thought I may combine both as the Making Memories wasn't rotating as well as it should. I had at the time one solid cube (those ones to alter with photos and papers) on the table more or less of the same size of the base of the carousel. So I put the cube on top of the lazy Susan and on top of the cube the carousel.
It works really well as it allows to fit much more stuff in there. However, is not that pretty!
